Put the Wavewalk on the river this morning in 98 degree temps, heading to triple digits, dead low water, crystal clear water conditions. The wind was blowing upstream 12 to 20 mph. Had a short portage and launched it off and overlooking deck. At 59 lbs, not a very difficult task.
I put in at the end of my run, and paddled upstream to the bottom of Jon’s Pocket shoal. Tied on a fly developed by Jeff Hawthorne, the PT Cruiser, and pointed downstream. Fish On, hung a nice rainbow on the third cast, and caught seven more working back downstream. Fished about forty five minutes and had a blast.
The boat handles the wind with amazing character. Much less windage than my significantly larger and heavier Supreme, or my drift boat. This thing is the bomb. Did hang one nice brown trout that proceeded to put himself under a log after dragging the Yak and my big self about 30 feet. What a hoot.
Gonna head back out late this afternoon and see if I can get a Hopper bite.
